About the Artist
Wendy Wu was born and raised in Beijing, China, where she grew up to become a political journalist — a profession she continues to pursue to this day.
She began drawing and painting as a hobby in 2017 and was immediately drawn to charcoal and pencil as her primary media. She feels that a contrasting tonality of black, white, and gray can often express the wide range of emotions in life far more powerfully than a multichromatic palette. She hopes to shine light on the anguish of contemporary urban life, and finds refuge and serenity in the depiction of nature and animals.
Wendy moved to Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2019 and still works full-time as a journalist. The gravity of the National Mall, the richness of the Smithsonian museums, the grandeur of Great Falls, the cherry blossoms along the Potomac, and all the scenery the DMV has to offer continue to inspire her art. As a self-taught artist, she has more inspiration than ever.
